King of Kings

“They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is LORD of lords and King of kings-and with Him will be His called, chosen and faithful followers.” Revelation 17:14 

When I think of a king I imagine him clothed in purple, arrayed in gold, crowned, and enthroned with a scepter in his hand. If I thought of his beginning, it would surely be full of grand celebration, ceremonies, well wishes, and gifts overflowing. Never would I picture a king’s beginning in a humble stable, let alone by  himself, ordained.

As Mary held baby Jesus, I wonder if she realized that she had birthed the chosen one of God, in a stable, surrounded by the sounds and smells of animals. 

She would not have seen the sight of heaven as they celebrated His birth. She would not have known that God was announcing His arrival by filling the skies with angels a far off. Never before and never again would a star signify the arrival of a king. Jesus’ birth does not have the expected hallmarks of the arrival of a king. Instead, it is filled with the miraculous, unpresidented, never again to be repeated, signs of the arrival of the King.

How can we help but celebrate the arrival of the King 2000 years after His birth? The King who was born  to become the Lamb of God, to save His people from their sins. How incredible that the King has called us chosen! We stand triumphantly and victorious with Him! 

Today, let’s meditate on the significance of the arrival of the King of kings and worship Him as the Magi did so long ago.
